Hello from SE Asia! We pray that you have recovered from your summer schedule and have now settled into a routine for the fall season. It seems that life is full of transitions; this time of year is one of those expected seasons of change! In just a few weeks BJ and Nathan will be home to bring greetings on behalf on the entire team…….but we wanted to give you a quick update on the ministry here and in addition give you a few ‘sounds bites’ that will catch you up with happenings around our home.
Yesterday (Sunday, September 19th) we had the privilege of celebrating the 2nd anniversary of Shalom Church. Thank you to those who have faithfully prayed for Pastor Chhinho, his family and this growing church. You’ll remember that we began attending Shalom when we arrived in Cambodia 18 months ago. The church consisted of 25 folks who were meeting in the front room of the pastor’s home. At the celebration service yesterday there were about 150 people, with 50 children in Sunday school!
In our last newsletter you might remember that Jodi had initiated a vocational training ministry in our home. The first young woman, Pannha, came to us through one of Shalom’s sister churches in the northern part of the country. Pannha is 25 years old and is an elementary school teacher by training. But because of the government’s inability to pay her regularly she wanted to seek employment in the capitol where she might earn a consistent living and help with the financial needs of her extended family. Though she had heard the gospel she had not responded to the message of salvation through Christ. We are thrilled to report that a few months ago she did respond to the gospel. We have seen a hunger for the Word of God, a desire to grow in her faith, and it was a special blessing yesterday as she gave her testimony at Shalom….praise God for His faithfulness!
We were blessed to have our first short term team with us in August! A team from Grace Fellowship Church in Charlotte, North Carolina and two pastors from Santa Cruz Bible Church in Santa Cruz, CA joined our team August 5-14. They were a tremendous blessing to our entire team, and we believe that they went away with a greater vision for what God is doing here in Cambodia!
Mikaela and Kamryn have started another school year. Mikaela loves being a 2nd grader and Kamryn enjoys everything about being in Pre K! Both girls love their new teachers and are doing well. We are thrilled to see them grow in the Lord, and mature into young ladies. Pray that God would give them a soft heart towards spiritual things, and a keen desire to seek after Him.
Thank you for praying for CJ! He is feeling much better and seems to have worked through his bout with the parasite! His energy level is back and we believe that another little boy will suit him just fine – yes, the ultrasound told us that we should be expecting a brother for CJ J
Jodi is finishing up her 5th month of pregnancy…..she feels OK but certainly covets your prayers! She finds enough energy to shepherd her energetic little ones, care for her husband and minister to the many that are in and around our home!
From time to time some folks have asked about special projects that are ongoing, thanks for asking! For a detailed list of these needs you can click on the following link at http://actioncambodia.org/opportunities/specialprojects.html
We are very excited about the progress that BJ is making on the team’s first translation project. It is a 12 week discipleship tool, and is being tested by different groups now! Pray that God would give us wisdom and discernment as to the kind of study tools that are most needed in the Cambodian Church.
This past month we have been blessed to have Lydia Wells with us. Logos International School was in desperate need of a teacher when the school started this semester…..and Lydia responded to the need within a few days notice….now that’s action! Lydia has been a special blessing not only to the school, but also in our home! The kids love her to pieces (literally), and she always seems to have enough energy to encourage everyone around her!
Our website recently was reformatted in order to make information about our team more readily available. Let us know what you think when you visit www.actioncambodia.org
Thank you for partnering with us here in Cambodia! We covet your prayers and appreciate your faithful support of the work God has given us. Blessings to you this week!! We are so encouraged by everything that is going on in and through the Body at WHCC……we pray God would continue to allow His hand to work through you in powerful ways…..both in Morgan Hill and around the world!
In His Bonds,
Daren and Jodi Beck
