Becks in Cambodia/Thailand

Categories: Updates from the Beck Family

Dear WHCC Family,

Jodi and I would like to thank everyone who has diligently prayed for us…..but we are asking that you keep praying!  The baby has not arrived yet, but we know that God’s timing is perfect – though Jodi would like for His ‘time’ to come quickly!  We were able to be together in Bangkok during Christmas as a family and had the privilege of having my mom with us for the festivities.

We returned this past Sunday evening to Phnom Penh, while Jodi remained in Thailand.  Andrea will leave tomorrow morning to be with Jodi this coming weekend, and then I will return on Monday to await the arrival of the newest addition to our family.  We will do our best to keep you up to date, but in the mean time you can specifically pray for Mikaela, Kamryn and CJ during this transition and for BJ and Andrea as they shepherd our children while we are gone!

This past Sunday we were in our room in Bangkok, on the 15th floor, when the earthquake struck near Indonesia.  Despite being 600 miles away we watched as the building swayed back and forth….we thought we were back in Los Angeles!  No one was injured in Bangkok, but we certainly did not understand at the time the massive devastation that would result.  If you have been following the news you have seen the horrific tragedy unfold across South Asia.  The confirmed death toll is over 80,000 tonight and they expect that those numbers will reach 100,000 by the weekend (they estimate that over half of the dead are children).  It is difficult to contemplate and interact with that kind of loss, but we can certainly pray for those affected and prayerfully respond as God leads.

ACTION is mobilizing missionaries and ministry partners in South Asia as we speak.   Our team here in Cambodia would ask that you join with us in praying for the millions of people that have been impacted.  In addition we believe that God would have us take action in a tangible way.  We have established a special fund through Action International Ministries.  Resources will be specifically given through our ministry partners to affected regions in South Asia for the purpose of coming alongside pastors, churches and/or organizations that are in desperate circumstances.  This effort will NOT solve the massive relief effort that is needed, but we pray that it will bring aid, comfort and a physical gift that represents the love of Christ to those in need.  If you would like to participate with us financially, please send a charitable gift to ACTION, and mark it Tsunami Relief Fund.   Checks can be sent to the following address:

Action International Ministries
PO Box 398
Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043-0398

Electronic gifts can be made by calling 425.775.4800.  You can also visit the front page of our web site for more details at www.actioncambodia.org

Thank you for standing with us, and being a vital part of what God is doing here in Cambodia and beyond!

In His Bonds,
Daren

II Corinthians 8:7 “But just as you abound in everything, in faith and utterance and knowledge and in all earnestness and in the love we inspired in you, see that you abound in this gracious work also.”
