Tsunami in Asia

Categories: Updates from the Lopez Family

Dear Friends,

Many have emailed and asked if we were affected by the Tsunami.  We appreciate your concern…I am glad to say we are fine.  In Fact, all of Cambodia was spared by the damaging effects of the latest Tsunami that ravage South East Asia.  As the death toll continues to rise we can’t help but be moved by the enormity of it all.

Like most of you, we keep thinking and asking ourselves “What can we do to help?”

Please pray with us as we seek the Lord in how we can best help our neighboring countries in the Name of Christ!  ACTION is mobilizing missionaries and ministry partners in South Asia as we speak.   Our team here in Cambodia would ask that you join with us in praying for the millions of people that have been impacted. I have attached a letter by our International Director Doug Nichols in the start of our response plan.

We are also praying about who on our team should be directly involved and what roles we should play. We need God’s wisdom and guidance. I will keep you posted.

Grace to you,
BJ Lopez

Re:     Asia Tsunami Relief & Care

Dear Friend,

ACTION is not a relief agency but will do what we can through team members, partners and friends to assist the victims of the recent tsunami in Christ’s Name.  Our efforts will especially be in Sri Lanka, India and Thailand.

As a member of the World Evangelical Alliance, we will coordinate any assistance that God provides through member agencies to the closest points of need.  As a result of the catastrophic earthquake and tsunamis on Sunday morning, December 26, news as of today reports that at least 80,000 people have died! (www.cnn.com). Government officials say there is a need of “a quick infusion of funds to stabilize the situation, then plan for the long haul,” (USA Today).

Our initial response will be lead by Devendra Rai, ACTION India Team Leader.

He will coordinate a team from North India working with the India Gospel Outreach ministries in Tamil Nadu in South India.

ACTION has therefore set a prayer target of an immediate need of $21,000 and trusting the Lord to raise one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) from now through the end of March.  As the Lord leads, you can send gifts to ACTION designated “Asia Tsunami Relief and Care.”

Please pray for the thousands of families affected by the earthquake and tsunamis and for God’s people in these areas as they reach out in compassionate care to the victims in Christ’s name.

"And if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness and your gloom will become like midday" (Isaiah 58:10).

Sincerely in Christ,

Doug Nichols
